What the Heart Wants

In a cold and lonely night
there are still stars that shine on bright
and in the darkness they can be used
to guide me back to you

Now there have been some times
that we were left to wonder why
the things so cruel were left to me and you
but the heart wants what makes it feel good

So you strayed too far away
and lost the one thing that held you true
but you wonder if it's too late to try and go back
somehow I don't think forgiveness will erase this in time

Because it's too late for my broken heart to mend again
I tried and tried but I can't forgive this repeating sin
maybe i thought you finally would see something
like you could look in on you from your own window

But i guess I held on way too tight
to a dream I had since i was young
maybe it's way to high even for me to reach
you see I've been searching for a love
that really wants me for who i am

I made so many promises to compromise
tried to bend to far in the pouring rain
held too much for too long in these empty arms
and like mercury these so called loves escape through my fingers
I just can't seem to hold on to them
