Jeremy's Creature

sitting in the bushes by his house across from the park, Jeremy was silent as a mouse. the creature in the open grass area of the park could only be seen faintly by the street lights. its dark form given away only by the glistening of the fur from the lights. then he saw its face, and it sent a chill up his spine, his hair stood on end. he thought it could sense him there in the bushes. it was acting like it was smelling something in the air. he swallowed his gum accidentally and the creature looked his way. did it hear him? he remain frozen , basically with fear. where or what the heck is this ? am i asleep having a nightmare? i need to wake up..right "now"..he uttered his last thought aloud and he saw the creature turn his way and take a step. he couldn't believe it, is it coming for him now? please stay there...please stay there..he thought. the creature tried to smell the air again and made a god awful growl then took two more steps his way. oh shit Jeremy thought, now thinking of his escape he was still frozen with fear and now his legs began to shake. the only thing separating them was the cold dark street between the park and his house and the occasional car back and forth. two older kids showed up down the block and started to cross the street to the park and the creature got quiet and ran back to the shadows of the trees. Jeremy wanted to scream at them to run but he couldn't utter a single word to warn them they were in danger. he could see the creature was still looking his way, its evil red eyes seemed to be fixed on his bush. the two kids were now over at the lighted basket ball court and when Jeremy looked back where the creature was crouched it was gone. oh shit he thought, where is it ...where is it ? then he saw it slowly gaining on the two kids, they were making lots of noise as usual and it was a bad thing...a very bad thing. Jeremy didn't know if he should watch or run into the safety of his house. his parent were gone and he was all alone for a few more hours. he decided to get up on the front porch and hide behind the railing. he could see the creature now stalking the boys, the entire park was stagnant but for the sounds of the boys. the creature was almost upon them and Jeremy was about to yell when his foot knocked off the clay planter from the porch breaking it. the sound carried and the creature froze in its tracks. it slowly sniffed the air and the two boys saw it at that very moment too. the ran away screaming but the creature didn't run after them. instead it turned towards his house again and that's when Jeremy knew it was going to come for him. it growled a totally different growl this time and sunk to the ground. as if it knew it was being watched and it was mad now, really really mad. it was fast crawling towards the street on the grass and it was not hiding now..it didn't care..it was going to get him. Jeremy ran into his house as fast as he could and bolted the door, then locked the windows and drew the shades. the creature let out a blood curdling howl that wrenched his body. he peeked thru the edge of the curtain and he saw it out on the front sidewalk sniffing his bushes where he was. his heart was about to burst from his chest. please dad get home and save me he thought. with all the lights off he now could hear the sounds of heavy breathing from under the front door. the creature then purposely scratched the front door with its powerful claws as if to tear it up and then Jeremy heard it speak " I know you are in there boy, I can smell your fear" and Jeremy made a sound he never heard himself make before and the beast started tearing up the front door. pieces were flying every where and the door was about to buckle in. Jeremy knew he was going to die..he just knew and the beast would surely devour him whole. the door broke open and the beast howled so loud it was deafening and Jeremy screamed which made the creature happy. Jeremy sees its odd smile and then it spoke again " now i have you boy...wrong place..wrong time...nothing personal but this is how my kind stays unknown..no witnesses". Jeremy faints with those words and lays there at the creatures feet.

Jeremy slowly wakened in a small room . it wasn't very big nor roomy even for his size. when he stood up he felt the metal and followed the chain length until he saw it was smartly bolted to the concrete floor. he gave it a quick tug in disbelief anyways "yep that ain't going anywhere" he thought. he tried to remember how he got here, the room was cold and it had a weird smell that somehow seemed familiar. nothing but straw was in the corner for a bed and even that was rather old. he sat down and tried to remember, his mind fought his assault to gain access.why was it so hard to remember, he has never had this problem before. slowly bits and pieces were developing and in a big flash he saw the figure that made him so frightened before. so what happened ? he was dead for sure, but he is alive. he looked thru the holes of the door that was rusty and damp. he could see a soft light far down the corridor. there were voices and figures moving around. then something moved by the door in front of him. he jumped back and the chain rattled. what ever was there hit the door and growled. just then a voice from down the hall yelled "leave him alone..for now". Jeremy senses went wild, he was trapped with nowhere to go or to get away. a trap door opened and a floppy portion of cooked meat hit the floor of his chamber. the odor of it was strange and its heat caused the rise of smokey vapor to escape. he was hungry but did he dare ? after all if what his memory could recall from last night this could...be..."yuck !" he exclaimed softly. the voice outside the door called to him "don't worry, it's not human". his heart screamed out in relief and he screamed "what do you want with me ?" and he heard the excitement of the thing that hit the door just before the voice. "ease your voice , you are upsetting the others..and you won't like to see what happens if they get excited". Jeremy immediately shut up, he knew now what was happening to him. will he become food for those things? his mind didn't want to utter the truth of what they are, it wants to refuse the reality that surrounds him. he gave a firm tug on the chain again in hope his first attempt loosened it. his hopes shot down upon its confirmation, he sat up against the far wall from the door and the steaming meat hunk laying on the floor. he started shaking uncontrollably and he wrapped his arms around himself then laid on the hay crying. he thought of his family at home and how they must be worried looking for him. he remembered the door was ripped to shreds and he perked up a bit thinking it would be so strange the cops would be looking for him. maybe they would find him in time he thought. but where was he ? he had no recognition of how he got here. something large started sniffing at the door, it wanted the meat. it growled and scratched at the metal door again. "go away" Jeremy said in a low sturdy voice and the thing stopped. Jeremy knew it would come back to try and get the meat. was the voices plan ? to tempt the beasts to terrify him, the voice indicated there were others too. just how many of them were there? then he remembered the giant figures words that stood over him the night before " our kind". Jeremy went over to the hunk of burnt flesh sitting on the floor and picked it up. he began to eat it thinking if he got rid of it he could keep the beasts from trying to get in .
