As Long As You Get Yours

why are we a species
that wants love and affection
and yet we do the things
that we do to each other
why won't we all listen
we let ourselves be conditioned
why can't we learn from our mistakes
decrease the number of graveyard stakes
lots of words about protections
money thrown at border detection
instead of finding a higher path to take
please feed and cloth the children
don't you see our future is with them
why don't you wake up
before it's all way too late
brother against brother
father against the mother
they say they do it for the children
but we all know it's greed
yet here we are all ears without a voice
keep them masses down at our own expense
our government wasted by oath breakers
whats next that they will take from us
they already got the shirt off my back
ya i trusted with my life and this nation
 and now that's what they all want to take
so am i supposed to lay down
and take it in the rear end
is me.. is it what i deserve
for taking the high road
trying to be a better man
that the ones that try and bring me down
oh i'm tired of all this fighting
but what else are we left in the night
tossing a turning can't help but lose my sleep
hey there Mr. politician take this bloody knife
it was passed along to me by my father

it was buried in the back of my brother
it was buried in the back of my sister
it was all that was left to me
so take it and finish me off

but one day all of this will be lost
what was the greatest thing in the world
will crumble and turn to dust
