The Highs and Lows

There's a rising sun just before you,
it's ready to help you start your day.
Gonna be bringing the warmth to you.
Gonna shine on you in every way.

Now I know I don't always listen,
it's a fault that was born in me.
But I don't need to hear you,
to see the beauty in front of me.

We always laughed in the rain,
we always played out in the cold,
we always shared our hopes and dreams,
we never the anyone tell us we were too old.

Our lives were like a roller coaster,
riding the highs and living the lows.
We were there for one or the other,
holding one another in the after glow.

 Last night in my dream

I could see you by my side again

I almost couldn't remember your name

All this time that's past between us

Has got me losing your face in the crowd

Funny how life seems to treat us all

Even the best plans get swept away

I never wanted it to be this way

If I had one wish upon a star

I would change everything to have you near

And two of us would be so happy dear

But it is what it is and I can’t change that now

Lost to us the bond that that would have been

The innocence now lost to time and space

Every night I cry knowing this is not the way

How cruel a joke to play on me
